Tragic Loss of
Young Life Dibrugarh, 22nd November 2012: A school boy became the latest casualty in a road accident which took place on A T Road in Dibrugarh, when a truck bearing goods collided with a passenger bus coming from the opposite direction. The driver of the bus lost control of the bus. The tanker tried to take a sharp turn. There was a head-on collision The bus was on its way to town with 50 passengers on board. The sudden impact made the bus swerve and go off its track. It hit a young school boy, crossing the road. People nearby rushed to the boy and called for an ambulance. The bus further hit a building and came to a halt. Several passengers were severely injured. Police arrived on the scene and took them into custody. TRAIN ACCIDENT Guwahati, 25th September 2012: Train accidents have become quite frequent these days. Yesterday, derailment of Delhi bound -Guwahati Express near Rangia Junction, took away two innocent lives and 50 got minor injuries. Minutes after the train had reached the outer signal of the junction, some mistake committed by the signalman caused the derailment of three boggies. The railway officials and a rescue team arrived at the spot with the police to do the needful. Residents of the place helped the passengers with water, food, and consolation. The government announced a compensation of Rs. 500000 to the family of the passenger died and Rs. 100000 to the injured passenger. Reported by Arun/Anima. |

‘CLEANLINESS
WEEK’ Tinsukia, 20th May 2012 (Karan), General Secretary of Eco
Club, XYZ College, P.S. Road, Tinsukia, launched a special ‘Cleanliness week’
in a unique manner in respect of College and its neighbourhood. It organized
several inter-house competitions. Poster-competition aroused the interest of
all neighbourhood and college volunteers, including the guests. The participants
made colourful posters on health and hygiene. Inter-house ‘cleanliness
competition’ was the main attraction of the day. Vivekananda House has judged
the best house for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness. The
students organized ‘cleanliness Quiz Contest’. An inter-house essay
competition on ‘Cleanliness is Godliness’ was also held. A grand function of
songs and dances was organized in the afternoon in the college auditorium.
The Principal gave away the prizes to the winners. Rammana was judged as ‘Mr.
Clean’ of the College. Vivekananda House was awarded ‘The Cleanest House’

Flood
Causes Havoc in Dhemaji District Dhemaji, July 7th: The recent spell of heavy rains in the state have
left a devastating impact in the district of Dhemaji. Road communication through the National Highway has
been cut off as surging floodwaters inundated a portion of the highway. Over a lakh
people are living in relief camps. The relief camps are not able to meet the
requirements of the people, though non Government organizations too have
started pitching in to aid the relief work. There is acute shortage of food
and drinking water. Water borne diseases are spreading rapidly among the
flood victims. Medical supplies are yet to reach people. The flood has
damaged several acres of farm land and the ready to be harvested crops have
been destroyed. Most of the flood victims are from the farming community and
they have lost their means of sustenance. Thousands of homes have been
destroyed. The local MLA promised that provisions would reach the flood
affected and assured that the Government would make all efforts in helping

Blood Donation Camp Karimganj,26th January 2017: A Blood Donation camp was held at Govt. Higher
Secondary School, Karimganj, on the occasion of its golden jubilee. Blood
donation is a noble gesture as it saves lives of people. The camp was
organized by the school in collaboration with Rotary Club, Karimganj and City
Hospital. The camp commenced at 10 am in the school premises.10 staff members
and 45 students donated their blood. The Chief Guest was renowned Assamese
Doctors Dr Ratul Bezbaruah, H.O.D. of GMCH who spoke on saving lives by
donating blood .When asked about the reasons for participating in the camp,
the young students replied that if they could donate life giving blood to
those who required it, it was a way of contributing to the society and the
world in which they lived. Snacks and tea were given to those who donated
blood. The Principal Arvind Roy,
expressed his satisfaction at the efforts made by the organizing team and

CELEBRATION OF WORLD ENVIRONMENT
DAY Guwahati, 20th July
2017: Sunrise Academy,
Guwahati celebrated ‘Environment Week’ recently. The celebration
started from World Environment Day on 5th June 2010. The main
function was organized in the college auditorium. Mr R.K. Sen, the noted
environmentalist was the Chief-guest. He read a paper on ‘Our Beautiful
Planet’. He highlighted the dangers that our environment faces today.
Unplanned urbanization, deforestation, smoke emitting automobiles and industrial
effluents have polluted our air, water and soil. N.S.S. College volunteers
held a march past holding banners enlightening the public on keeping the
environment clean. The star attraction of the week was an exhibition. Its
theme was ‘Green Earth Clean Earth’. The principal was highly impressed by
the volunteers and their dedication to the cause. He acknowledged their

‘Tree Plantation Week”’ Vijay Public
School, Tinsukia celebrated ‘Vanmahotsava week’ from 20-2-2019 to 27-02-2019.
The ‘Vanmahotsava week’ was launched with great fanfare by the Headmaster and
the students. About two hundred trees were planted on the campus. They
included traditional Oaks, Gulmohars, Neems, Banyans as well as other flower,
trees. Several inter-house competitions were organized. They highlighted the
need for ecological balance for man’s happiness. An inter-house poster
competition focused on the factors that are degrading the ecological balance.
Preserving forest wealth, growing more trees and keeping the environment
clean can save the situation. The winners were given away prizes in the gala
ceremony at the conclusion of the week. The ‘Vanmahotsava week’ turned out to

Say
on to Plastic Guwahati, 22nd November20XX. The Environment
Awareness Club of XXX School,Guwahati
initiated Say No to Polythene Bag campaign in the school campus. The
main objective of this campaign was to make students and people aware of
the bad effect of polythene bags on environment, human beings and animals.
The S.D.M. of the city led the campaign. Besides there were many elite
members of society who had come to give their tremendous support to this
programme. The campaign carried many activities. The programme started with
the motivational and informative lecture from our Principal. He apprised
the people gathered there He said that polythene is non -bio- -degradable
product When eatables are carried in
them, the chemicals used to make them get mixed with them. So polythene
bags make the food items poisonous. If the animals chew them, they go to
their abdomen and cause them severe pain and most of the time become a
strong reason for their deaths. The Chief Guest also enlightened the people
about drawbacks of the use of poly-bags. Besides agreeing with the
Principal about the hazardous caused by polythene bags, he preferred to
tell their substitutes. Students took out a rally carrying placards with
various slogans in the city. There was enthusiasm among them and the people

EDUFAIR 2011 Guwahati, 3rd September 20XX: The Edufair 2011 was
organized by Assam Tribune Pvt. Ltd. in Guwahati on 20th September
20XX. Many top Colleges and Universities of India participated in the fair.
It was an interactive session where students of different institutions gave
information about their undergraduate and graduate programmes. The different
books and the curriculum were a matter of discussion in the fair. The
students were given enough time to interact with the experts and to get the
replies to their quarries. They were also given sufficient time to go through
the books and purchase them. The main motto of the Fair was to enlarge their
knowledge of any subject incorporated/included in their curriculum. The
famous writers of the various books were also present in the fair whom the
students could meet. The fair started with a cultural programme and ended
with a seminar after seven days. The organizers of the Fair were happy to see
the response and took the decision to organize it after every four months.
The Fair was inaugurated by the President of Sahitya Sabha. It was truly an

12. A team
of twenty students from Japan visited your school as part of a cultural
exchange programme. A special welcome assembly was organized for them. Write a

Ans. A Visit by Exchange Programme
Participants Four teachers and twenty students from Edwin
University, British Columbia, Canada, visited the Happy School, Subhash Nagar
last Friday. In this programme students of Indian schools and colleges visit
schools abroad and vice-versa to broaden their awareness and outlook. The
school was wearing a festive look on the occasion. Decorations and posters
welcoming the visitors were everywhere. At the school gate, our Principle
himself was present to welcome the delegates. After touring the classrooms
and laboratories to observe the facilities in the school, the delegates had
an hour-long interaction with teachers and students on education in India and
how students can help society with their positive outlook and enthusiasm. The
visit concluded with a delicious ‘high tea’ in honour of the delegation.The
visitors were seen off by the Principal and senior teachers. Reported
