NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST NEW SYLLABUS FROM 2020

TEACHING & RESEARCH APTITUDE
Code No. : 00-PAPER-I
UGC NET is a National level exam which is conducted by National Testing Agency on behalf of University Grant Commission. After passing this examination, candidates are eligible for the post of “Assistant Professor” or “Junior Research Fellowship”.
In our website my we provide notes and solved papers for COMMERCE (08) and HINDI (20) together with notes and solved papers of General Paper.
Pattern and Key Points (General Papers):
1. Mode of Examination will be online
2. General Paper consists of total 50 questions carrying 2 marks each
3. Five questions each carrying 2 marks are to be set from each Module.
4. Whenever graphical/pictorial question(s) are set for sighted candidates, a passage followed by equal number of questions and weightage is set for visually impaired candidates.
5. All questions are of MCQs type and four option against each questions are given
6. There will be not negative mark for wrong answers
7. All questions are compulsory.
8. Latest activity in the field of education in India must be studied.
Syllabus: GENERAL PAPER ON
TEACHING & RESEARCH APTITUDE
The main objective is to assess the teaching and research capabilities of the candidates. The test aims at assessing the teaching and research aptitude as well. Candidates are expected to possess and exhibit cognitive abilities, which include comprehension, analysis, evaluation, understanding the structure of arguments, deductive and inductive reasoning. The candidates are also expected to have a general awareness about teaching and learning processes in higher education system. Further, they should be aware of interaction between people, environment, natural resources and their impact on the quality of life. The details of syllabi are as follows:
Unit-I Teaching Aptitude
a. Teaching: Concept, Objectives, Levels of teaching (Memory, Understanding and Reflective), Characteristics and basic requirements.
b. Learner’s characteristics: Characteristics of adolescent and adult learners (Academic, Social, Emotional and Cognitive), Individual differences.
c. Factors affecting teaching related to: Teacher, Learner, Support material, Instructional facilities, Learning environment and Institution.
d. Methods of teaching in Institutions of higher learning: Teacher centred vs. Learner centred methods; Off-line vs. On-line methods (Swayam, Swayamprabha, MOOCs etc.).
e. Teaching Support System: Traditional, Modern and ICT based.
f. Evaluation Systems: Elements and Types of evaluation, Evaluation in Choice Based Credit System in Higher education, Computer based testing, Innovations in evaluation systems.
Unit-II Research Aptitude
a. Research: Meaning, Types, and Characteristics, Positivism and Post positivistic approach to research.
b. Methods of Research: Experimental, Descriptive, Historical, Qualitative and Quantitative methods.
c. Steps of Research.
d. Thesis and Article writing: Format and styles of referencing.
e. Application of ICT in research.
f. Research ethics.
Unit-III Comprehension
a. A passage of text is given. Questions are asked from the passage to be answered.
Unit-IV Communication
a. Communication: Meaning, types and characteristics of communication.
b. Effective communication: Verbal and Non-verbal, Inter-Cultural and group communications, Classroom communication.
c. Barriers to effective communication.
d. Mass-Media and Society.
Unit-V Mathematical Reasoning and
Aptitude
a. Types of reasoning.
b. Number series, Letter series, Codes and Relationships.
c. Mathematical Aptitude (Fraction, Time & Distance, Ratio, Proportion and Percentage, Profit and Loss, Interest and Discounting, Averages etc.).
Unit-VI Logical Reasoning
a. Understanding the structure of arguments: argument forms, structure of categorical propositions, Mood and Figure, Formal and Informal fallacies, Uses of language, Connotations and denotations of terms, Classical Square of opposition.
b. Evaluating and distinguishing deductive and inductive reasoning.
c. Analogies.
d. Venn diagram: Simple and multiple uses for establishing validity of arguments.
e. Indian Logic: Means of knowledge.
f. Pramanas: Pratyaksha (Perception), Anumana (Inference), Upamana (Comparison), Shabda (Verbal testimony), Arthapatti (Implication) and Anupalabddhi (Non-apprehension).
g. Structure and kinds of Anumana (inference), Vyapti (invariable relation), Hetvabhasas (fallacies of inference).
Unit-VII Data Interpretation
a. Sources, acquisition and classification of Data.

c. Graphical representation (Bar-chart, Histograms, Pie-chart, Table-chart and Line-chart) and mapping of Data.
